- Changing Boundaries Process
Chesterfield is a wonderful place for children to learn and grow. Families continue
to choose Chesterfield County in part because of the public school system, which is consistently cited by SchoolMatch as having what parents want. Recognizing Chesterfield’s appeal, America’s Promise Alliance has named Chesterfield County one of the country’s 100 Best Communities for Young People for two years in a row. Top-notch school divisions attract students, and the Chesterfield school system has grown by about 1,000 students each year since 2001. Additional students require additional schools, and attendance boundaries must be redrawn every time a new school opens.
In the fall of 2008, two new middle schools are scheduled to open to help relieve crowding. These two schools are part of the bond referendum approved by voters in 2004. Construction contracts have been signed and work has begun. The same design plans will be used for both schools, which are scheduled to open in September 2008.
● One of the new schools is Elizabeth Davis Middle, located next to Elizabeth Scott Elementary near the intersection of Route 10 and Interstate 295 in the Bermuda District. This school, which will cost about $38 million, may affect school boundaries for Carver Middle, Chester Middle and Salem Middle.
● The other new school is Tomahawk Creek Middle, located west of Route 288 and north of Old Hundred Road in the Matoaca District. This school, which will cost about $39 million, may affect school boundaries for Swift Creek Middle, Midlothian Middle and Bailey Bridge Middle.
